Press Release: UNO Hosts Louisiana College Theatre Festival
Theatre UNO is pleased to announce the Louisiana College Theatre Festival, a part of the Kennedy Center American
College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), as a special event in their 2009-2010 season.
The four day festival will include performances from NINE universities from across the state of Louisiana. This is one of the largest KCACTF state theatre festivals Louisiana has seen in quite some time.
Assisting UNO with some of the hosting responsibilities is Dillard University. This festival will bring students from nine colleges together for 4 days of productions, workshops, and networking.
In addition, noted professional actors Bryan Batt will speak to festival participants about some of his experiences in theatre, film, and television (including his supporting role in the critically lauded AMC show, Mad Men).
Productions participating in this festival include:
- Verses from Jordan, presented by UNO
- Candide, presented by Delgado Community College
- Noises Off, presented by University of Louisiana, Lafayette
- The Boys Next Door, presented by Louisiana College
- Angels in America, presented by LSU, Alexandria
- Parking Lot Babies, presented by Southeastern Louisiana University
- The Long Christmas Ride Home, presented by McNeese State University
- The Woman in Black, presented by Bossier Parish Community College
- For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, presented by Southern University, Shreveport
The aims of KCACTF are to identify and promote quality in college-level theatre production. The festival itself involves a series of state and regional festivals that ultimately culminate with a National Festival each April, which is held at the John F. Kenned Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. Last year, more than 1,300 productions were entered in the KCACTF involving more than 200,000 students nationwide.
Theatre UNO has had a long history of success with KCACTF. In the last 15 years, they have had two productions, two playwrights, three directors, eight actors, and one critic all invited to the National Festival.
